The American crypto exchange Kraken denied the social rumors that it is shutting down one of its service centers on the background of security problems. This is written by CoinDesk.
The user Reddit under the nickname “throwaway34034324” on Thursday wrote that the exchange closes the office in the Canadian Halifax and “just fired hundreds of people in the light of a security breach.”
The user under the nickname “MysteriousPlankton”, who is probably one of the employees of the office, writes that the company asked them to resign at their own desire with the payment of a compensation package equal to eight weeks’ earnings, adding that otherwise no one guarantees continued cooperation.
“They said that because of the decrease in volumes (trading and tickets) and in the light of the opening of the new Asian office, we need to reduce costs, and the dismissal of newly hired employees (less than three months, about 57 people) was not enough,” he writes, that employees who were responsible for procedures related to customer identification and countering money laundering, security and investigations, as well as processing of input/output of funds, fell under the dismissal.
Although by now the Kraken exchange has not issued an official statement, on Twitter its employees replied that this information is not true.
“We are ready to confirm that we do not limit our activities in certain regions and did not experience any security breaches. Everything is good and safe,” – wrote the exchange.
In February, Business Insider reported that Kraken intends to increase the staff of its employees by 800 people during 2018. Nevertheless, in April, the exchange decided to stop servicing the Japanese market “because of the costs and resources that are necessary to maintain the service” in this country.
